My Artist Statement
At its core, art is a reflection of God. It drives us to creativity and encourages us to engage with one another. His handiwork is shown in every single one of us, since the day we were born. I am the happiest when I am creating my artwork to glorify the Lord. As both a potter and painter, I embrace the flexablility of clay and depth of oils to evoke a sense of wonder that points towards the beauty of creation.
My work has a delicate, nostalgic feel. When I throw on the wheel, I am at peace. Using just my hands, I can bring a design to life by pulling and manipulating the clay. I enjoy making many things, from vases to ceramic sets. But what I love the most is creating functional pottery like bowls, plates, and mugs; things that someone would use to fill their new home. I love the idea of making something that evokes emotion, giving them a moment of happiness.
Oils tend to touch the heart and the mind and get people to think. My goal with my paintings is to capture a moment in time. I love to take a memory from my childhood, or a picture that I cherish and turn that into a beautiful work of art. The paint on the canvas speaks to its viewer, blending the light of the sky to the power of the rolling of the waves. Watercolor can give something a brighter feel, possibly reminding someone of the beauty and raw love that life has to offer. God has given us many blessings in our lives, and I wish to portray that in my artwork.
My artwork is ultimately a reflection of the One who created me. God is the Artist and the Potter in my life; I am the canvas and the clay for Him to use. He is the Lord of creation, beauty, and unique pieces of art that I see in everyone around me.
